Background
Situated in Montepulciano, Poliziano is a family-owned winery celebrated for its Vino Nobile di Montalcino red wines. The estate draws its name from the Renaissance poet Angelo Ambrogini, famously known as Poliziano. ‘`Asinone` hails from a 12-hectare vineyard situated at an elevation ranging from 380 to 400 meters above sea level. Crafted from Sangiovese grapes, some vintages might also include 10% of Colorino and Canaiolo.
Tasting notes
As noble as its name implies, Vino Nobile de Montepulciano is the flagship wine of the southern Tuscan estate of Poliziano. Deep-coloured, juicy and intense, with flavours of dark cherries and ripe plums, it has the richness, tannic structure and balance to reward keeping, even if with suitable decanting it can be enjoyed more immediately.
Winemaking
Fermentation, in stainless steel vats, lasts from 10 to 18 days, at a max temperature of 32ºC with skin contact. Ageing is for two years in wood, two thirds in oak barrels of varying capacity and one third in barriques, followed by a period of bottled ageing for 6-8 months.
Food pairings
Pairs well with beef dishes, such as ragu, brisket and bolognese. Also, a great options with smoked and barbecued meats.
