Background
The Roquette & Cazes project is above all a meeting of two friends: Jorge Roquette from Quinta do Crasto and Jaen-Michel Cazes from Château Lynch-Bages.
In 2002, the two families decided to create a company to produce great wines that were marked by the natural characteristics of the Douro and the experience of Cazes who have been making wines in Bordeaux for about a century.
A wine adventure “To make a great wine with the Douro grape varieties, a wine that shows structure and complexity, that possesses the power and the sun of Portugal combined with the elegance of Bordeaux”, said Jaen-Michel Cazes as part of this adventure.
Tasting notes
Deep violet. Very complex on the nose with fresh berry fruit notes and elegant hints of violet and spice. Elegant start that leads to a well-structured wine, with fine-textured tannins. Flavours of berry fruit nicely combined with delicate notes of violet. Solid, fresh and lingering finish.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested grapes undergo rigorous inspection before being destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with a French "rack and return" technique to enhance skin contact. Post-fermentation maceration refines the wine’s texture, resulting in a concentrated, elegant wine. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Food pairings
Pairs well with savoury meat and game dishes, as well as rich Italian food.
