Background
Sierra Cantabria is one of the most popular wine labels not only in Spain but all over the world. The history of this brand dates back to 1870, and it is a family-run wine estate that is currently managed by the fifth generation. This family’s main philosophy is to give back to the earth what the earth has given them. For the last two centuries, they have been following this philosophy through their single-minded dedication and passion towards taking care of the terroir.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, cherry and liquorice. It’s a quintessential modern Rioja with rich, plush blueberry and blackberry flavours, chalky acidity, stylish oak and violet aromas. Long and well balanced.
Winemaking
Traditional winemaking and 100% de-stemmed Tempranillo (97%) and Graciano (3%) fruit. Temperature controlled fermentation takes place between 28 and 30ºC with indiginous yeast selected from their own vineyards over a period of 9 days. Slow malolactic fermentation takes place in oak. barrels with extended maceration on the skins for 21 days. The wine ages for 24 months in Bordelaise barrels of French oak (60%) and American oak (40%) of which 30% new oak and 70% maximum 3 year old wines barrels. Bottled without filtration.
Food pairings
Pairs well with lamb dishes. Also pork, chorizo, and barbecued meats, Moroccan dishes and hard sheep's cheese.
